In 2025, Governor Cox and other Utah leaders publicly promised to save the Great Salt Lake by the 2034 Winter Olympics. But have their words been matched with the action needed to achieve this lofty goal? 

The Governor’s “Great Salt Lake 2034 Charter” recognized the urgency of the crisis and acknowledged that low lake levels “imperil” Utah’s public health, environmental wellbeing, and economic stability. But the charter failed to provide any tangible policy commitments – or even policy recommendations – to deliver on its promise.

Every promise made to the public should be matched by meaningful action and accountability.
